Suni Singh is from Adiasahi village, Nilarigi block, Balasore. The mother of two children depends on their land for survival. The husband works hard to grow crops in their field. Flood and the resultant loss of crops have led to acute food insecurity of the family. In the Phailin flood, they received sever loss of standing crop. For days they lived on one meal a day and even sometimes mothers went without food to fulfill the food needs of the children.

The “Food Security for Flood-affected Populations in Odisha” implemented by Adhikar with the support from USAID in the village addressed the food insecurity of the family. They received around 88 workdays with a wage of Rs165/day. Timely help from Adhikar addressed their immediate need of the family and gave them the confidence to survive.
